Thursday, May 7th - Meet My Alien Writing Prompt
So when people talk about outer space they sometimes talk about aliens. Aliens are in all kinds of space movies. Now I have never seen or met an alien myself but wouldn’t it be cool if you did? Now is your chance to create an alien that you would like to meet and write a little sentence about them. Does your alien have 10 eyeballs or three legs? Is your alien pink with purple polka dots or green with blue stripes? Be creative when drawing your alien and tell me at least one fact about them. You could start with “My alien’s name is…” or “My alien likes to eat…”.
So let’s get started. Draw and color a picture of your alien and tell me one thing about them. Have fun!

Tuesday, May 5th, 2020 Blast Off!
Today’s art project is building a rocket ship or a space shuttle. The projects require a toilet paper tube or a paper towel tube cut up. If you don’t have either of those things, rolling paper and then taping it works well, too. Have fun being creative today!
If you are not up for arts and crafts today, I have attached some worksheets that you can do.

Monday, May 4th, 2020 - May the Fourth Be With You!
It’s Star Wars Day! So Ms. Kristine is a HUGE Star Wars fan! Today is a special holiday my family and I like to celebrate. We pick our favorite Star Wars t-shirt to wear (my daughter picks her favorite Star Wars costume) and we have a Star Wars movie marathon. We have watched the Star Wars movies so many times since we were kids that I have lost count. Today we will celebrate by doing some Jedi activities--well, sort of. Below are some choices to practice your Jedi mind tricks and battle the evil Empire. Okay, they are really just some fun activities to sharpen your Padawan mind before you become a Jedi Master. Have fun and may the force be with you--always!

Friday, May 1st, 2020 - Free Time Friday
Today is a chance for your family to choose what they want to do today. Lazy Day? PJ Day? Puzzles? Charades? Maybe find a movie you haven’t watched in a really long time and pop some popcorn and enjoy it again. I like picking movies from when I was a kid and sharing them with my daughter. We plan on watching Goonies or Ferris Bueller’s Day Off this week. Any cheesy 80's movie will do! Since the weather is getting a lot warmer this week, maybe plan an indoor picnic in the living room. My Mom used to do this with my brother and I on rainy days. Whatever you choose to do, just try to relax and enjoy the moment. Any questions, just let me know and DON’T FORGET TO DO YOUR WEEKLY CHECK-IN! Thank you!

Friday, April 24th - Family Time
I know we are already spending A LOT of time together, but I would like you to pick an activity that you guys like to do and spend time together away from school work. My family likes going on walks, baking, and doing arts and crafts. We also love to look through old photos of me and my husband when we were younger and share stories about life before my daughter (she doesn’t seem to believe we could have possibly done anything without her). We like to go back through Facebook and look at old pictures and videos of my daughter when she was smaller and talk about the things she liked to do. Take a picture of your family doing what you love today or maybe an old photo that has a great story and share it with us. You can post in on the thread in Class Tag or email it to me and I will post it on our Weebly page. Have fun with your family today!
*I have shared a couple of pictures that have some great memories. The picture on the left is a picture of me when I was 5. My family and I would go visit my grandparents in Pennsylvania for Christmas when we were stateside (I'm a former Air Force brat). If you look closely you will see an Annie doll my Mom sewed for me. I still have it! The second picture of me is when I was almost 2. I am "reading" The Night Before Christmas. My family's tradition is to read it every Christmas Eve. I continue this tradition with my own daughter.

Who doesn’t LOVE rainbows? Everyone’s favorite colors are in the rainbow. Don’t they have that saying, “It comes in every color under the rainbow?” Now is your chance to show me the very best rainbow you can draw and tell me what your favorite color in the rainbow is. I have provided you with a writing prompt to get started. I also drew a rainbow. What do you think?

Wednesday, April 22nd - Happy Earth Day!
Today is Earth Day! What can we do to be kind to our planet? Some things that we can do: reduce, reuse or recycle! We can reduce the amount of electricity or water we use. Turn off the lights when you are not using them and don’t let the water run when you brush your teeth. We can reuse items and make them new again. You can use toilet paper rolls to complete art projects or use an old sock or undershirt for a dust rag. We can recycle items instead of throwing them in the trash. Collect your old paper, glass, soda cans or certain plastics and put them in the recycling bin every week. Try to do one kind thing today to make our Earth happy. Let me know what you chose to do! I have attached a few worksheets and some websites if you want to complete some more activities at home.

Friday, April 17th - Friday Farm Food Fun
Today we are talking about food from the farm. Cows give us milk, the fields give us veggies/fruit/grains, chickens give us eggs, pigs give us bacon, etc. Whether you do this activity today or make a grocery list for later, talk with your kiddos about where the ingredients you use to cook with or make meals/snacks come from. I have listed some choices below but you can always come up with your own ideas, too! Making butter is always fun and gets some of the kids’ energy out to make! Let me know what you guys make and snap a pic to share.

*APRIL CALENDAR/READING LOG*
I know we are half way through April but if your kiddo wants to work on doing their AB patterns like we started during calendar time in March, they are welcome to practice extending this pattern everyday (and it helps them keep track of what day it is!). I have also attached a reading log to color in after you read a story. This is not mandatory but something extra for them to do if they want to. Thanks.

Tuesday, April 14th - Farm Fun Week (What’s Your Favorite Farm Animal?)
It’s time to kick off our Farm Theme Unit. This is by far my favorite thing to teach the kids! It’s fun to learn about the farm animals, farm animal sounds and what each farm animal contributes to us. Let’s start today off by learning about any farm animal that you pick. You will do a little research on PebbleGo or a website of your choice. I will attach a writing prompt page so you can share a drawing of your animal and tell me at least one thing about your animal. Try to write about your animal all by yourself first and then ask Mom or Dad for help writing the sentence.
Not sure how to draw a farm animal? Check this out!

Puppet Theater for Thursday, April 2nd
Let’s make our own puppet theater show! Now Mrs. Herrald may date herself but when I was your age I loved to watch the Muppet Show. Don’t know what that is, just head on over to YouTube and pull up an episode or two to hang out with Kermit and Miss Piggy for a little while. I have created a list of links to help you create a puppet of your choice. You can use paper or fabric or even an old sock. Get creative and use whatever you have laying around the house, you might be surprised at what you find. When your puppet is done, give them a name. Maybe your puppet has a family or a favorite food. Put on a puppet show for your family! Have fun and I want to see your creations.

Write a Recipe for Wednesday, April 1st
I have a confession to make--I love collecting cookbooks but I don’t use them very often. I am not much of a cook. I do LOVE to bake sweet treats, though. Now is a chance for you to share a favorite recipe that your family loves to make. You can even create a recipe of your own kids! Love macaroni and cheese? Could you tell me what ingredients you would need and how to cook it. Love eating cake? Do you know what you would need to bake one? Have your parents help you write down your recipe and send it to me. I want to see if we have any Iron Chefs in the making in class. Have fun!

Toilet Paper Roll Art for Tuesday, March 31st
I thought it might be fun to be creative with some things we have laying around the house today. Do you have an empty toilet paper roll laying around? Must just be a teacher thing. LOL If you have an empty toilet paper roll, you can create almost anything. Today I challenge you to create something awesome using a toilet paper roll. It can be a monster or an animal or whatever else you think of. I am including some links to pages and some pictures to spark your imagination. I will make one too and we will take pictures of them and show them to our friends. If you don’t have a toilet paper roll today, make your creation when you have one and then send me a pic! Have fun.

Make It Monday for Monday, March 30th
Who loves to draw? Today we are going to create some fun pictures! I came across some super cute directed drawing activities that your kiddo will be able to do. When we draw in class we talk about how we use shapes we already know how to draw to create new pictures. Have your kiddo give it a try. I will add additional directed drawing activities on our Weebly page.
My daughter introduced me to a great page on YouTube called Art for Kids Hub. If you visit their page on YouTube you can draw a TON of different pictures. Right now they have Easter art projects, Spring stuff and Dr. Seuss featured. You can also search for animals or popular Disney characters, even Star Wars! Have fun and don’t forget to snap those pics and post them or email to me so I can put them on Weebly for your friends to see.

Thankful Thursday for March 26, 2020
Let’s be thankful for something each and every day! Thankful means being happy or glad about something that you like or have in your life. Today think of something or someone you are thankful for and write about it. I have included a writing prompt page that will also be uploaded to our Weebly page. Don’t forget to write your name on your paper and draw a picture too.
Do you think you can write the letters of the words if your parents tell you? Do you think you can copy the words if your parents write them on another piece of paper first? Remember to “try your best” first and it’s always okay to ask for help.
I will go first....I am thankful for all of my students. They make me smile and laugh everyday.

Chalk the Walk Wednesday for March 25, 2020
So I have seen a lot of great things on social media to help spread some happiness. One of the things I have seen is “Chalk the Walk”. If you have any sidewalk chalk, you and your family use it to draw happy pictures and messages to boost everyone’s spirits on your driveway or sidewalk. Now if you don’t have sidewalk chalk, I have also seen people hanging Christmas lights in their yard or in their windows. I know I would be happy if I saw those! Our awesome lunch lady, Miss Denise, cut out a bunch of tiny colorful hearts and hung them in her window for all to see. I know it brought a smile to my face. Have fun and take a picture so we can share them with everyone!
It’s Tell Me Something Tuesday for March 24, 2020
Hey, kids! It's Mrs. Herrald. It’s time to tell the teachers something that we don’t know. Tell me about your favorite toy, or favorite food or your favorite thing to do. Take a picture of yourself and email it to me and I will post them on our Weebly page. Don’t forget to tell me about your picture, too. I will go first...I love to bake. I am best at baking cookies and banana bread. I always make my Mom’s special chocolate crinkle cookies at Christmas. They are always a big hit! Now it’s your turn. I can’t wait to hear and see what you have to share with me and your friends.
Mat Man Monday for March 23, 2020
It's Mat Man Monday! We have the kids sing along and draw Mat Man at least once a month so they can see the progress they are making with drawing a recognizable person with at least 8-10 body parts. The kids love building Mat Man out of lines and shapes before they start drawing. The first file below is the file that contains the Mat Man activity and the words that go with the song. The second file is templates of long and short straight lines and long and short curves that you can print out and use to build your own Mat Man. I have also included a video from YouTube to show you how the activity is done in class. Have your child draw Mat Man and write their name and email it to us so we can post their picture!

Family Fun Time for March 20, 2020
I know we are all stuck indoors for awhile and my family has been passing the time by playing the board games we have in the house. Yahtzee, anyone? Board games can teach patience and turn taking skills. It is also a great way to pass the time that doesn't involve television. Have some fun today and don't forget to post those pics. We miss seeing your child's smiling face everyday.
